School Workshops

WriteWest delivers playwriting workshops in state schools across Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset.

At the first workshop, students form theatre companies and follow an intensive, structured programme to create their own short plays through a mix of devised and scripted exercises that are suitable for all levels of literacy.

At the second workshop a cast of professional actors perform these plays, and the students are given copies of their scripts as published playtexts.

Training for teachers and course materials are provided to ensure as many schools as possible can participate.

If your school would be interested, please email participate@papatango.co.uk to ask for further information.
“The sessions, from the playwriting to performance, are invaluable. You are enabling students who are often told that they have ‘no creative talent’ to see what potential as storytellers lies within them. At the start of the term, when they are still bonding, it brings a cohesion. They love working with industry professionals who will eventually both provide them with their own published plays and then see their work performed by professional actors. The work from all involved at Papatango is greatly appreciated.” Teacher
