“EVERY YEAR THE PAPATANGO PRIZE COMES UP WITH A BIT OF A CRACKER.” THE GUARDIAN
Launched in 2009, the Papatango New Writing Prize is the biggest playwriting award in the UK, attracting more annual entries than any other. Despite this, it is also unique in offering personal feedback, supporting new writers and generating new work for the entire sector.
The Prize has long led provision for emerging playwrights. The first - and still only annual - playwriting award to guarantee its winner a full production, publication, fee and royalties, as well as to provide shortlisted writers with showcase readings streamed worldwide, it has changed the landscape for new writing.
"We are proud to launch the 15th Prize, in what is undoubtedly one of the toughest periods emerging playwrights have faced since we first opened in 2009. With funding vanishing, audiences stretched, and programming changing fast, the need for writers to be supported and showcased on the most exciting platforms is more pressing now than ever. This Prize is not just a beacon for new talent and new stories, it is a call to action." George Turvey
Each year the Prize expands to offer even more to early-stage writers, championing people excluded from theatre. Find out more about this year's Prize, our fifteenth, via the links below.
