WriteWest provides completely free playwriting training, events and performances for artists and audiences throughout South-West England. It commissions and develops new plays, funds emerging producers, and teaches or produces writers in state schools, community centres and major theatres.
A producing course, in partnership with Theatre Royal Plymouth, Nuffield Southampton Theatres and Salisbury Playhouse, provides training and networking for 12 emerging producers in the region – with bursaries of £3000 available to support their work.
A South-West writer will be appointed Papatango’s 2019 Resident Playwright from an open-application process, with a full commission and support to develop a new play as well as mentoring from leading regional theatre-makers including Bristol’s Tobacco Factory Theatre.
Two playwriting courses at Taunton’s Tacchi Morris Arts Centre and Plymouth’s Barbican Theatre will provide free training and dramaturgy for 36 writers, culminating in world premiere performances free to a local audience at each venue.
Workshops for adults will run across Exeter, Gloucestershire and Somerset, led by major theatre-makers. Read more HERE.
State schools in Bristol, Gloucestershire and Somerset will host playwriting workshops, with students’ plays professionally performed and published.
Papatango’s team will be available for personal, confidential advice in a fortnightly online chat service. Read more HERE.
