Molly Barnes-Tate
About Me: Molly Barnes-Tate was born and raised in the North-East. A ‘writer’ of some description from an early age, she began with stories scrawled in notebooks with brightly-coloured biros and has since progressed to writing plays on an occasionally-temperamental laptop. Molly is also a biology student at Durham University, where she spends her days writing laboratory reports and her evenings failing to stop improv comedy workshops from flying off the rails. Her first play Supernova was performed as part of LiveWrites at Live Theatre, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in January 2025.

Tell The Truth
Connie believes in making the world better. She works for a children\'s charity and is an Extinction Rebellion activist. But she holds a dark secret, even from her brother Frank. After they were orphaned in their teens, Connie ran away and Frank went off the rails. They were reconciled when Frank was helped by Connie\'s charity, and after Frank had an affair with Connie\'s now-boyfriend Justin. The charity\'s CEO (a Svengali figure for Connie) suicides himself in mysterious circumstances. Justin knows the real reason: he\'s an undercover police officer, whose relationship with Connie is a ruse to infilitrate the charity. Ultimately truth will out, and the consequences are disastrous. The play includes Humpty Dumpty and Alice, the ghosts of Connie and Frank\'s parents, a magical TV that broadcasts intertwined news stories from across the decades, and stagehands who intervene in the on-stage action. Religious proselytizers and mendacious politicians are referenced: who can anyone believe? And is standing up for societal good causes a sustainable distraction from the dark secrets within, striving to burst out?
