About me
I have actually just finished writing a long narrative poem, one hundred and forty pages of rhyming verse, most of it written during lockdown. I am truly proud to have finished the manuscript, which is out with potential publishers as we speak. The whole process was cathartic and felt so good reconnecting with myself as an Artist
The difference perhaps between myself as an Artist and other Artists maybe my creative production expertise. For the London Fashion Week Ubuntu International Project initiative I created and founded, I did absolutely everything myself from concept to realization. If I had known what it would entail I probably would have run a mile in the opposite direction but the experience and skill sets acquired then is invaluable and has served me ever since in subsequent professional roles as Curator, Creative Director, Fund Raiser, Producer, Team Leader and Manager, Workshop Leader Moderator and Spokesperson.
It was a huge undertaking but became one of the first pioneering platforms to showcase progressive African Fashion Designers.
A project I executed twice..I was younger and crazier lol
I think I should also add I walk the path of old school and new. I love for example Shakespeare and the spoken word, customary attire, sustainable and progressive avant gardiste aesthetics, innovation and tradition, substance and style. This I think is due to my Nigerian heritage combined with being immersed and working as a model for iconic magazines ID Dazed and Confused, innovative designers the likes of Alexander McQueen and the great cutting edge stylist Judy Blame.
I would like to consider myself an up lifter and strive to bring that moral compass and all of the above aesthetics into all of my projects. It is my artistic and spiritual modus operandi.
Being a Mother of two young women of colour (the eldest a DJ @nasthedjbaby1- the youngest in marketing ) is the drive that pushes me to stay relevant in all matters pertaining to female empowerment and social/cultural activism. Topics very close to my heart.
