About me
My name is Rachel and I am a writer and actor based in South London. I began developing my passion for theatre while studying English Literature at the University of Cambridge. Here, I developed my skills as an actor, director and producer. After graduating, I began a Masters in Classical Theatre at LAMDA. Here I received formal actor training and began developing my skills as a writer, writing and performing a one woman show for my Masters thesis centred around the politics of child-bearing in queer relationships.
Mewling and Puking, a new writing showcase staged at the Hen and Chickens last August, marked the birth of Happy Cannibals, a theatre and film company established by myself and two other coursemates from Cambridge. Alongside the showcase, Happy Cannibals also has a short film in post-production and a full length play in early development. As a writer, I am deeply interested in how modern political and social discourse can creep into the language we use in the most private and intimate of interactions. As a company, Happy Cannibals aims to celebrate and showcase the beautiful irrationalities and idiosyncrasies of people, and are deeply interested in how stressful and impossible situations often force us to reveal the most lovable and endearingly flawed parts of ourselves.
