About me
Richard Boggie is a playwright, performance poet, disability activist and access consultant based in Newcastle upon Tyne. His work is often playful and comedic, but tackles important equality and social justice issues, using his lived experience of sight loss and disability to create
insightful and challenging work.
Since starting to write and perform poetry as ‘Bogsey’ in 2017, he has won multiple slams, including Born Lippy, The Great North Slam and the Great Gateshead Slam. He has performed at venues and festivals across the UK, including Edinburgh Free Fringe, the Royal Albert Hall, Watchet Music Festival, Rich Mix in London and Out Of Your Head in Newcastle.
More recently he has enjoyed success as a playwright. His first professionally produced play, ‘Chop, Dissolve, Burn’ (Alphabetti Theatre, 2023), a collaboration with Lisette Auton, attracted glowing reviews and the pair were finalists for ‘Writer of the Year’ at the North East Culture Awards.
