About me

I am a writer and performer for Theatre, Film and TV (with Cornish and Brummie roots, now living in London)

After completing a BA in English & Drama at Royal Holloway, I went on to study for an MA in Theatre & Performance at Queen Mary, where I developed a love of creating bold and challenging theatre, often using live-art and playful multi-media techniques. I then completed an MA in Acting at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, where I am now a guest-lecturer and creative tutor. I then trained as a playwright on courses at Theatre 503, The Arcola and The Criterion Theatre’s New Writing Group 2019 & Development Groups.

I have written several plays, both short and full length, and my play, Please, Feel Free to Share, was recently published with Methuen Drama and is now being developed for TV.

I am the founder of Scatterjam, often working closely with a team of associate artists to create and produce female-led, darkly comic, work that is socially and politically engaged whilst being physically and structurally explorative.

I also work as a screenwriter, having completed a Filmmaking Course at MetFilm in 2022 and then going onto to write, direct and produce my debut short film, STALEMATE (2023).

I was then selected as one of twelve writers on the Channel 4 Screenwriting Scheme 2023 and am currently one of eight writers on Dancing Ledge's Screenskills Scheme 24/25.

I am represented as a writer by Eva Bell at SayleScreen and am currently in development with several ideas across Theatre, TV, Film and Radio.

Please, Feel Free to Share

Synopsis:

“Everyone is constructing themselves.
I'm just conscious of doing it.
More than that, I'm a sculptor of it.
I am a fucking artist.”

Alex is a social success. Her Instagram boasts a montage of members-only rooftops, inexplicably sunny days and clinking glasses – like after like after like! When her father dies, Alex reluctantly joins a bereavement group. She shares a little, and then lies... a lot. And it feels good – like the 'likes', but live, and just like that, Alex is hooked.

Please, Feel Free to Share by Rachel Causer is a dynamic, darkly comic, one-woman show about our personal addictions, the never-ending pursuit of 'likes' and our growing desire to share all.

★★★★
"Causer's writing is always brilliantly clever, and Please, Feel Free To Share is no exception to this rule. It is an excellent commentary on the extreme nature of social media and instant gratification of things such as the Like button and similar online" - Within Her Words

★★★★
"Energetic, Entertaining and Engaging. This is the second play I’ve seen by Rachel Causer and I am definitely a fan of her darkly comic writing style.”
- LondonTheatreGal

"Once again Causer shows just how skillfully she creates and writes original female characters. Her writing is packed with a dark humour that Róisín Bevan brings to life with an at times unnerving verve." - The View from The Outside
