About me

I started my writing life as a winner of the Royal Court Young Playwright’s Competition.

At Oxford, I co-directed theatre with Neil Bartlett, wrote a play in blank verse (unperformable!) and was President of the Etceteras, part of the Experimental Theatre Company.

I wrote and performed comedy, on stage and radio, with Ian Hislop for several years. I also wrote comedy with Richard Curtis and Chris Tarrant.

My play - “A New Adam and Eve”- was performed by the Haymarket Theatre Company, directed by Adrian Reynolds.

In 2004, I researched, collated and edited a book about social and environmental actions everyone could undertake in their daily lives: “Change the World for a Fiver”. It sold 1.2 million copies worldwide and was translated into several languages.

My first novel – “Hallowed Ground: The Mystery of the African Fairy Circles” – was published in October 2019 and was runner-up in the People’s Book Prize.

I have written a feature film, stage play and TV mini-series about Waldemar Haffkine, a remarkable man who saved mankind from cholera and the plague.

I have also just completed a stage play entitled “Chaos Theory” a black comedy about what happens when two warring families turn up at a boutique hotel in Northern Spain, in the middle of a bizarre local festival.

I have two TV drama ideas in development.

I am a graduate of the Faber Academy and have completed short courses at the National Film and Television School, Raindance and the Central School of Speech and Drama.
