My name is Paisley Jackson, I am a  31-year-old neurodiverse and disabled actor and writer from Newport, South Wales. My debut play, Celtic Manners, won the ‘John Thaw Working Class Initiative’ and was showcased at the Tristan Bates Theatre. I've had the privilege of writing for Chippy Lane Productions, Dirty Protest, and Theatr Gwaun. I am proud to have reached the top 4% of open submissions for the BBC Writers Room, where I was recognised as a BBC Promising Writer. Celtic Manners has been described by the BBC as “a Wales-set drama following in the footsteps of Polly Garter from Dylan Thomas's Under Milk Wood and Effie in Gary Owen's Iphigenia in Splott.” I have also reached the top 12 of 'It's my shouts' BBC short film submission with her film 'A Fag with Doris. In 2022/23, I graduated from the Sherman Theatre Writers Group, the Royal Court Introduction to Playwriting Group, and BBC Welsh Voices, where my passion for theatre writing evolved into an interest in television. Paisley reached the top 7% of submission for the BBC Access group and has currently been long listed for the BADWOLF Productions Blaidd Screen alliance writing program. I have also had the theatre version of my play ZETA penciled in to be produced by Swansea Grand Ambition in 2028.
 
As a writer, I strive to amplify underrepresented voices, focusing on female-led narratives and working-class stories. Comedy and dark comedy-drama form the foundation of all my creations. The saying, "If you don't laugh, you'll cry," deeply resonates with me—it's a sentiment ingrained in working-class households and one that feels authentic to my perspective. I delve into hard-hitting topics, intertwining them with comedy to create stories that entertain while provoking thought and reflection. I take pride in my quick wit and conversational approach to dialogue, embracing all things that capture a true "slice of life." For me, the everyday holds endless potential for humour, and I find real comedy in the ordinary moments that connect us all.
