About me

Hi, I am Nick Emm, a 67 year old neurodivergent writer, and have written and illustrated nine books for young children, a juvenile novel, and am currently writing a detective novel. I wrote my first play last year to enter in the Papatango prize, and although it didn't place, the feedback was invaluable and very encouraging. Since then I have been busy reworking it and taking the excellent feedback and comments into account. I'm extremely grateful to Papatango, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the process. I am looking for representation and other writing opportunities, so feel free to get in touch.

My Plays

The Playwright And The Prince

Synopsis:

This play in 3 acts is a bittersweet comedy, which primarily concerns the alleged relationship between the Playwright, Noel Coward, and Prince George, later the Duke of Kent. It also alludes to Noel Coward's obvious neurodiversity, and the difficuties homosexual men experienced in those tmes. The play spans the years from 1924 to the Dukes untimely and tragic death in an air crash in 1942.

The play opens at the end of the last nights  performance of a Coward revue and takes place in his co stars, (Gertrude Lawrence), dressing room, where she is visited by Prince George, a long time friend, and introduces him to Noel, and they experience 'love at first sight'. They have to navigate the obvious dangers of their feelings for each other becoming public, at a time of ruinous persecution of gay men.
