About me
Mia was born and lives in Suffolk. After completing a BA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa and an MA in Screen Writing at Roehampton, she returned to her native Suffolk to complete her script for a major TV series. During this time she took part in a 3 months lighting design course at the New Woolsey Theatre in Ipswich. This, together with her frequent trips to East Anglian and London Theatres, ignited her desire to return to playwriting. She became part of Eastern Angles' Young Creatives group, and is currently co-writing a play for young people based on East Anglian lore, to be performed at Eastern Angles' Sir John Mills Theatre in March/April 2025.
In parallel to this, Mia is currently working on 'Hidden Haven', a full-length play about lesbian love in 1920s New York (see Synopsis and script sample). Themes of feminist liberation and forbidden lesbian love in history feature throughout her work. Her heroines are powerful, vibrant young women swimming against the tide of their times, seeking to change their own and history's fate.
During her studies she wrote two plays, one about two sisters taking part in the 'Sisters Uncut' protests, the other about a young woman trying to track down her sister who has been locked up in the Magdalen Laundries. Both were selected for read-throughs by professional actors at Bath university.
Mia has so far written two TV series: 'Love under Fire', set during the Nazi era in Germany, telling the story of two teenage girls, one Christian, one Jewish, falling in love and dealing with the consequences; 'The Green House', a Ghost story in which a young woman solves the mystery of her mother's death with the help of some very quirky ghosts. Mia's parents are German and Irish, which might have something to do with the cultural and historical range of her work.
