Synopsis:
A one-act play inspired by Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.
Mal was once Chief of Staff to Olivia, a powerful politician. Now, after resigning in disgrace, he works among the misfits and rejects of the London law firm of Hathaways. But his cynical exterior softens when he meets Rosie, an idealistic lawyer who is struggling with the compromises of her profession and who secretly harbours an urge to go into politics herself.
Impressed by Rosie’s idealism, Mal proposes to use his political skills to help her win office. But the moment of hope is shattered by the arrival of Margaret, whose husband took his own life after falling victim to a fraud by Mal and Rosie’s client.
Margaret’s accusations force Mal to face up to the effect of his actions on others. And while Rosie soon leaves for a political career, Mal is determined not to return to a life that made him into a monster. Redemption means something different for each of them, and they part sadly and affectionately.
