My Plays

Joe and Ginny

Synopsis:

In this audio play Virginia Woolf has died and entered a classical afterlife. Her unlikely guide into the underworld is Joe Orton. Eternity has its own rules – time isn’t sequential so, although she had predeceased Joe, he has already been there for some time. Although conceived as an audio play it would work equally well in the theatre with minimal staging requirements.

Time and Tide

Synopsis:

The genre is a audio drama. There are two main characters: Jack and Josie. Jack was married to Josie's mother, but they divorced. Josie's mother remarried, and Josie is the daughter of Jack's former wife and her new husband, who then abandoned the three-year-old Josie and her mother.

In the play, Josie is now about 12. At the start of the play, she is staying with Jack in his cottage (called 'the cabin') by the sea in Norfolk because her mother is ill and probably dying. Josie isn't aware of the true extent of her mother's illness, but the adults have decided that, in the event of the worst happening, Josie will be effectively adopted by Jack, who has remained single after the divorce. For Josie, it's just a holiday by the sea and a chance to give her mother a break.

Later in the play, we learn of the death of Josie's mother; Josie is now spending Christmas with Jack in the cabin. The atmosphere and the season are now sombre.

Urban Myths or Based on a True Story

Synopsis:

This audio play tells the not-quite-true story of two students, Pete and Jack, who after their final exams, set off on a road trip to meet, finally and in person, Jack's girlfriend whom he has only ever talked to on line.

Their story is enlivened by their encounters with people and situations that usually exist only in urban myths.
