About me

I am a mother, writer, and theatre maker from Essex. I am a Mercury Playwright and Eastern Angles Associate Artist for 2025. My work focusses on Testimonial and Verbatim theatre born from social issues in East Anglia. I immerse myself in the community that I am representing and conduct extensive research and interviews. I then workshop these findings and ideas with those affected to ensure that the story I am telling is truthful.
I have recently been commissioned by Blown Fuse Theatre to write a piece of theatre based on the female prison experience, taking research from a series of workshops with probationers in Essex. This is supported by Arts Council England and Advance Charity. We hope to be able to continue our research by offering workshops in female prisons across the UK.
I have spent 18 months researching and interviewing those affected by the Traveller eviction at Dale Farm in Basildon in 2011. The play is now at a stage where before any rewrites can happen; I would like to spend time in an R&D setting to see what else I can draw from it. I believe playwriting is a collaborative artform and would really value feedback and workshopping of the script.
I am currently working with Elevator Arts on their Blast youth project writing a final year show for children who speak English as a foreign language to be staged at Towngate Theatre Basildon and Palace Theatre Southend.
Continued learning is a huge part of my practice, and to ensure I sensitively approach the topics I write about; I have completed Trauma-Informed Practice training and am a Mental Health First-Aider.
