What I’m wholly interested in exploring with my writing is the connection between people and place. Growing up as an outsider who struggled to find a connection to British life, I find my work is all rooted in understanding our role in community (or wider society) and the responsibilities we have as part of it. Often, this is about betraying the system in the fight for a better life, but also about finding kindred spirits — friends or lovers — to build a new home on the rubble of another. I find I have a dry wit with a nostalgic tone that battles sometimes with the optimism I try to propagate with my work, but the balance between the two allows that theme of connection to really shine through.
