About me
My name is Giulia and I’m a queer writer and theatre-maker from Italy. Because of my dual nationality, I am very drawn to writing about linguistic/cultural heritage, belonging and nature/folkore, both on a personal and political scale: how does one belong to multiple places, what things about ourselves remain untranslatable. I am also very interested in writing about memory/temporality and queer/female led stories: I am excited by the possibilities offered by non-linear, non-heteronormative storytelling and find myself drawn to telling stories through a non-naturalistic, magical or dystopian setting because of the heightened emotions they create and what they tell us about our own humanity. I’ve completed a Masters in Playwriting and am currently working on developing my play ‘The Thing with Feathers’ after premiering a short version of it at the Royal Exchange Studio as part of ‘A night of new writing with Simon Stephens and Carmen Nasr’. My play Sibilla was recently shortlisted for the Carlo Annoni International Playwriting prize and my work has been staged at various Fringe theatres in Edinburgh and Manchester, including the John Thaw Studio, 53two and the Hope Mill Theatre. In 2023 I was also commissioned by IOU Theatre for their digital project ‘My Three Words: Global Gallery’ and am currently longlisted for Theatre503's International Playwriting Award.
