About me

I am a playwright specialising in contemporary blank verse drama. My work explores historical subjects through muscular, actor-led language written for production scale.

My previous play, Love Loyalty, was produced at the Union Theatre, Southwark and received press coverage including TimeOut London.

My current play, CARAVAGGIO, has been commended by the National Theatre’s New Work script panel and is being presented in an invitation-only industry reading at the Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly in April 2026, directed by Mark Leipacher.

CARAVAGGIO

Synopsis:

The catholic world is on the verge of collapse. In the eyes of Caravaggio, there is only one solution: His. But can an upstart artist press a city to his way of thinking - with painting alone?

Caravaggio sees the people adrift, the masses of poor forgotten. Speak to them directly in paint, and fill Rome with his vision - and perhaps save the faith. What would you not compromise for that?

National Theatre Senior reader team:

“Our team enjoyed reading it, and it was commended by the script panel. Our reader admired your handling of the blank verse form, the depth and complexity of your characterisation of Caravaggio, and the pacy flow of dramatic action.”

Love Loyalty

Synopsis:

When a group of ordinary people are taken from London and plunged into the fearsome world at sea during the Napoleonic wars, the struggle of their lives unfolds.

One of their number, unknown by most, is a stowaway expectant mother. Others are press ganged from a London gaol. But will they fight for a cause, or something else?

Written in blank verse to highlight the grit and heroism of the ordinary person, Love Loyalty sends its characters headlong towards the battle of Trafalgar as they struggle to recover their humanity.

TimeOut London:

“Mixing gritty pacifist rhetoric with Shakespearean comedy and iambic verse.”

“Its intriguing blend of fantasy and documentary.”

EXTRA EXTRA:

“The script was beautifully written, with playwright Benjamin Claude, penning it in an ancient form of blank verse, which rang so true, that at times, it almost seemed to mirror the truth behind the poetic language of Shakespeare.”

“It has been 200 years since the Battle of Trafalgar took place, but this atmospheric drama brings it alive.”
