About me

I'm a software developer, a mum, an avid reader, and a writer.

I write screenplays and stage plays: comedies, tragedies, and dramas that ignite and restore. My aim is to send people home with a new and surprising perspective.

I'm a member of the Manchester Screenwriters Group, and I hope this group will be every bit as nourishing and rewarding.

My Plays

Inscrutable

Synopsis:

This is a historical drama about Shakespeare through the eyes of a young Suffragette. It's about why artistic freedom matters, and a tribute to those who fight for it.

The Renaissance was an exciting time for a young playwright, and a dangerous time.
While exasperating those who wish to keep him solvent and safe, Shakespeare’s uncompromising commitment to the truth eventually wins over his patron, his players, his family and his audience.
But his resolve is tested to its limits when his only son, Hamnet, is murdered by his enemies.
As the ultimate act of retribution, Shakespeare plots to show a play about the corruption at the heart of the state, Hamlet, to catch the conscience of the audience.
Here, we learn the true meaning of the soliloquy, “To be or not to be”.
Discovered through the eyes of a young suffragette, we see the lasting effect that uncompromising art has on history, on how we see ourselves and what we can become.
She is taught, as Shakespeare is taught, that if you want to succeed, you must be inscrutable.
But sometimes, silence is impossible.
Will Shakespeare have to pay the ultimate price for the truth?

With excerpts from Shakespeare’s best writing performed by the rehearsing players, we offer a new lens to view the meaning of his words. As Shakespeare pours his tumultuous life into his plays, we gain a new interpretation of his writing and see a relentless, subversive spirit emerge to shake the very foundations of the state.
